Help
Short answers to the questions people ask. If yours is not here, email and a person replies, usually within a day.
Getting started
- How do I set up a course?
- Create a course from your dashboard, then open Resources and upload your material. Indexing takes about a minute per file; the Topics tab fills in as it runs. Past papers and problem sheets give the best questions, so upload those first.
- Why did a file fail to index?
- Usually the PDF is a scan with no text layer, or it is protected. Try a photo of the page instead, or export the document again from its source. A failed file can be retried from Resources up to three times an hour.
- Where do the questions come from?
- Each exercise type shows the exact questions it was found in, with the file and page. Generated papers mirror those questions; anything written from a topic description alone is marked so you can tell the difference.
Practice and marking
- How is my answer marked?
- Against the mark scheme implied by your material: point-based rubrics for written answers, exact matching for multiple choice. Marks come with a sentence on what was missing. If you disagree, flag the answer; a note on why helps.
- What is a review?
- Exercise types you got wrong come back on a spacing schedule. A review is a short paper made only of what is due, in the course's own question style.
- Can I show my working in a photo?
- On Pro, yes. Under any written question in an attempt, add up to four photos of what you wrote or drew; the marker reads them together with anything you typed. Free plans type their answers.
- Can the tutor explain visually?
- On Pro, switch on Visuals under the chat box and every substantive reply comes with one visual that fits the question: a labelled diagram, a side-by-side comparison, a plot, or a step-through of an algorithm you can play and step through. A visual reply counts as two of your daily messages.
- Can I sit a paper on real paper?
- Yes. Export any paper as a PDF or LaTeX, with or without the answer key, and mark it yourself. Papers sat in the app are graded for you and feed the review schedule.
Plans and billing
- What does Free include?
- Every new account starts with 14 days of Pro, no card needed. After that, Free gives you everything in the app on two courses, with five files per course, one exam paper and five graded attempts a day, fifty chat messages and three cheatsheets a day. Two things are Pro-only: photos of handwritten working on exam answers, and visual explanations in chat.
- What happens after the trial?
- After 14 days the account moves to Free: two courses with five files each, one paper and five graded attempts a day, and fifty chat messages. Everything you made stays. Upgrade any time from Settings, then Billing.
- How do I upgrade or cancel?
- Settings, then Billing. Upgrade opens checkout with Polar, our payment provider. Manage billing opens your invoices, payment method and cancellation. A cancelled plan stays on until the end of the paid period.
- Can I get a refund?
- Email us within 14 days of a charge. If Pro has not been meaningfully used in that time, we refund it in full.
- Where are my invoices?
- Settings, Billing, then Manage billing. Polar issues every invoice and emails a receipt for each charge.
Account
- Is using Quirepage allowed for my course?
- It is a revision tool: it writes new practice questions from your own material and marks the answers you write. It does not complete assignments, and the tutor explains rather than answers homework. If your course has rules about study tools, treat it like past papers and a study group, and check with your lecturer if unsure.
- Do my uploads train the AI?
- No. Files and answers go to OpenAI’s API under terms that exclude training, and Quirepage keeps no training set. Only an answer you flag with Help improve Quirepage switched on may be used, to test the marker.
- I forgot my password.
- Use the link under the sign-in form. A reset link goes to your email and works for an hour. If you signed up with Google, sign in with Google; you can add a password later under Settings, Security.
- Can I download my data?
- Settings, then Data and privacy. You get one JSON file with your courses, topics, papers, attempts, notes, chats and review history.
- How do I delete my account?
- Settings, Data and privacy, then Delete account. Everything is removed at once, including uploaded files, and any Pro subscription is cancelled. It cannot be undone.
